Flautist - Educator - Freelance Musician and Artist
Toronto based flautist Meghan Cornett has performed and taught in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Eastern Ontario, and the UK.
A graduate of McGill University's Schulich School of Music, Meghan works in the music education field in addition to freelancing. A member of the Ontario Music Educator's Association (OMEA) and an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), she specializes in classical style flute playing with over 15 years of playing experience.
In the past, she has appeared as principal flute with the McGill University Wind Symphony under the direction of Mr. Alain Cazes, Mr. Jonathan Dagenais, as well as guest conductor Ms. Gillian MacKay from the University of Toronto.
Meghan enjoys freelancing in musical theatre pit playing, having performed many shows in Montreal and Toronto on flute and piccolo such as Mary Poppins (Steppin' Out Productions), The Full Monty (Beautiful City Theatre), West Side Story and Sweeney Todd (AUTS).
Demonstrating great performance versatility, Meghan has played flute on the Lakes of Canada debut album, Toll The Bell.
While living in the UK, Meghan appeared regularly as both a soloist and an ensemble musician at Trinity Wimbledon United Church in London, England.
Meghan has been privileged to have studied and worked with many wonderful flautists and professionals throughout her experience, such as Cindy Shuter, Carolyn Christie, and Paul Edmund-Davies.
Also a member and founder of Mind The Gap duo, Meghan performs alongside organist and pianist Sean Mayes.
Meghan has a profound love of traditional Irish and Celtic music, which she enjoys playing in her spare time. She also holds a minor degree from McGill University in World Religions, is fluent in French, and is an avid vegan culinarian and yogi.
